When temperatures drop and winter approaches, we all want to be warm and cozy - including our beloved pets. But all that heating can quickly become expensive. With a few clever tricks and the right equipment, you can save on heating costs and still enjoy cozy warmth in your home. Here's how you can do it.
1. Store heat with petWALK smart

2. Your own stove is worth its weight in gold
Cooking creates heat that you can use to heat your home. After baking, leave the oven door open so that the warm air flows into the room. This way you save twice: on heating and on restaurant visits.
3. Choose the right room temperature
Not every room needs to be the same temperature. The following temperatures are recommended:
- Living room: 20 °C
- Bedroom: 17 °C
- Kitchen: 18 °C
- Children's room: 22 °C
For every degree less you save around 6% on heating costs!
4. Ventilate properly
Instead of leaving the windows permanently ajar, you should ventilate several times a day. Open the windows wide for a few minutes. This will allow you to exchange the air efficiently without the walls cooling down.
5. Use curtains and blinds
Close curtains and blinds at night to keep the heat in the room. Curtains have an insulating effect and prevent heat loss – and prying eyes at the same time!
6. Keep radiators clear
Make sure your radiators are not covered by furniture or curtains. Free-standing radiators can distribute heat better throughout the room.
7. Use solar heat
Use sunny days, even in winter, to heat the rooms. Open the curtains and let the sun in. This saves heating costs and lifts the mood.
8. Dress warmly

9. Use a central thermostat
If you have a central thermostat, set it directly to the desired temperature. Start with a low setting and slowly work your way up until you find your comfortable temperature.
10. Turn down the heating when you are away
If you are not at home, lower the temperature. If you are away for a short time, 15 °C is enough, but if you are away for a longer period of time, you can turn it down even further. Programmable thermostats are particularly useful here.
11. Bleed the radiator
If your radiators are gurgling, there is air in the system. Bleed the radiators to increase efficiency and reduce energy consumption. This is easy to do with a bleed key.
