The petWALK pet door has an integrated emergency power battery so that your pet can safely return home even in the event of a power outage. Like any battery, this one has a limited lifespan. In this section, you will learn if a battery replacement is necessary and how to perform it if needed.

When is a battery replacement necessary?

Before you start the replacement, we recommend a quick check: A blinking operating mode does not always mean a defect – often the battery is merely recharging after a power interruption.

  • Brief blinking: After a power outage, the battery recharges. If the blinking stops within a week, everything is fine.
  • Constant blinking / “LOAd”: If the display remains for several days, the battery is either deeply discharged or defective.
  • Important note: The display “LOAd” also appears if the battery connector is not firmly plugged in. Please check this beforehand.

Identify battery type

Depending on the age of your petWALK pet door, different battery types are installed. Knowing this is important because older models absolutely require a functional battery for operation.

AMP battery (models before 06/2014)

  • Identification feature: The connector is not directly visible.
  • Special feature: These models cannot be operated without a functional battery. A replacement is essential here for the basic function of the door.

JST battery (models after 06/2014)

  • Identification feature: The connector is visible (left or right next to the door leaf, depending on the hinge side).
  • Special feature: The pet door generally functions without a battery when connected to the power grid. However, the JST battery is needed to automatically switch to emergency power mode during a power outage.
