Getting Started with Your petWALK Pet Door

To ensure the best possible start for you and your pet, we have summarized the most important steps for initial setup and helpful tips for getting your pet accustomed to the new door.

Tips for a relaxed adjustment phase

Every animal learns at its own pace. Consider the first few days as a shared training experience that should primarily be enjoyable.

  • Create positive associations: Capitalize on your pet's curiosity. A little liver pâté or their favorite treat placed directly on or near the pet door often works wonders to overcome initial hesitation.
  • Encourage quick passage: Cats, in particular, like to linger in the doorway to look outside. To avoid this, you can temporarily block the direct view outside with a planter or similar screen. This motivates your pet to go through the pet door quickly.
  • Utilize acoustic signals: Keep the signal tone active at the beginning. The gentle sound helps your pet understand when the door reacts and when it closes again.
  • Understand symbols: Familiarize yourself with the display. The green light on the display shows you that the system is in operating mode. The symbols for exit and entry control, as well as the lock symbol, inform you at a glance which sensors are currently active.
  • Increase sensitivity: For the learning phase, we recommend setting the motion sensors to the highest level with a value of 98. This way, your pet will be detected early, and the petdoor will open in time.
  • Adjust opening time: Give your pet time. An extended opening time reduces pressure when passing through the door.
  • Activate RFID later: Start without access control. Only when your pet is confidently using the petdoor do we recommend switching to chip recognition. Please note that the chip sensor is located in the middle of the door panel. The detection of implanted chips cannot be guaranteed in practice, as it depends on various physical factors: The small size of the chip and the thickness of fur and tissue can significantly limit the reading range. The most reliable solution is the included petWALK collar chip, as it offers a significantly higher range and constant detection.
